Candle Care

My candles are crafted to be soot free with a 50-60 hour burn time with proper care. Here are some pro tips!
Your wick is already the proper length for your first burn, go ahead and light it.
Do not blow out your candle until the melt pool reaches the edges, usually around 4 hours on the first burn. This will prevent tunneling due to wax memory.
Before relighting your candle, trim any mushrooming off of your wicks. Just don't trim them too short! A little snip to remove the mushrooms is perfect.
Optimal burn time is anywhere from 4-5 hours.
Keep out of reach of children and pets, and away from drafts and flammable objects.
Never leave the house or go to sleep with a burning candle!
Know when to let go! Discard & reorder your favorite scent when there is half an inch of wax remaining.

Common candle terms:
Tunneling occurs when the candle does not melt evenly to the edges of the jar, instead burning straight down the middle and can drown your wicks.
Mushrooming is buildup that creates little black balls at the top of the wicks.
Cold throw is how strong your candle smells when it is not lit.
Hot throw is how strong your candle smells while burning.
Melt pool is the depth and outreach of the melted wax while your candle is burning.
Soot is the black residue that builds up on the sides of the vessel, which can occur if wicks are not trimmed properly.

Fun fact: a candle maker is called a chandler. I always thought I was more of a Phoebe, but I guess I'm a Chandler! ;)
